어제(14일) 오후 2시, 경상남도 기념물로 지정된 마산중앙부두 김주열열사 시신 인양지(4월혁명 발원지)에서는 문화재 표지판 제막식이 열렸다. 기념사업회 관계자들과 회원들이 참석해 뜻깊은 자리를 함께 했다.
-도지정문화재- 김주열열사 시신인양지 종 별 : 경상남도 기념물 제277호 지정년월일 : 2011년 9월 22일 위 치 : 창원시 마산합포구 신포1가 47-6외 면 적 : 2003.9㎡ /보호구역 300m(경계로 부터) 이곳은 1960년 3월 15일, 자유당의 이승만 독재정권이 저지른 부정선거에 항거한 마산 3․15의거 시위 중 행방불명이 된 김주열열사의 시신이 별견된 장소이다. 행방불명이 된지 27일이 지난 4월 11일, 바로 이 바다에 떠오른 열사의 시신은 오른쪽 눈에 최루탄이 박힌 끔직한 모습이었다. 독재의 하수인이었던 경찰들이 3․15의거 현장에서 쓰러진 열사의 시신에 돌을 매달아 바다에 수장해버린 것이다. 이와 같은 독재의 만행에 마산시민들의 분노는 민중봉기로 폭발했고, 이날 4․11마산민주항쟁의 불길이 전국으로 번져 마침내 4․19혁명으로 이어졌다. 그래서 이곳을 ‘4월혁명발원지’라고 부르게 된 것이다. 우리나라에서 민주화운동 관련 장소가 문화재로 지정된 것은 이곳이 처음이다. 2011년 11월 14일 사단법인 김주열열사기념사업회

On the same day, the body of Kim Ju Yeol was found, the resentment of Masan residents toward such dictatorial savagery burst out and led to another uprising. The 4․11 Democratic Uprising sparked a flame and it spread nationwide leading to the 4․19 Revolution. Therefore, this place came to be called "the cradle of the April Revolution".
